Church Road Widening Update
Church Road widening work has been progressing over the past few weeks, primarily with pipe crews installing storm drain pipes. However, even with the pandemic and periodic rains which have slowed the work to a degree, the storm drain installation is winding down and there are just a couple weeks remaining of pipe work, mostly at the South end near Oak Grove Road. As they’ve been working, Verizon has been onsite moving their lines over to the PEPCO poles at the South end of Church Road. Verizon still has a lot of work to do up and down Church Road. Although we’re pushing them to complete quickly, their primary focus is to keep customers in service, making emergency repairs when needed, and providing service to new customers. Relocation work, like this project, although important, is relegated to an “as needed” status, depending largely on crew availability and weather. We expect Verizon to take the next 45 – 60 days or so to complete their work, after which time, the road widening contractors’ grading crews and equipment will mobilize and work will begin in earnest along the existing roadway, where practical. This puts grading crews on the job beginning mid-late June as we enter the hot summer months, typically best months for subgrade preparation, stone, and paving. We will continue to provide updates every few weeks and thank you once again for your continued patience as the Church Road widening project transitions into this next phase.
